30 Reasons Donald Trump is the MOST HONEST President in American History

President Abraham Lincoln was nicknamed “Honest Abe”. But now there may be a challenger. After less than 2 years of being President, Donald Trump is being labelled by The Washington Post Op-Ed columnist Marc Thiessen “the most honest president in history”. Quoting his 11 Oct 2018 op-ed piece, I list for you 24 reasons why this past critic of Trump, who believes he constantly exaggerates, admits he may be the most honest president ever. Then I will add 6 more reasons which should get Christians’ attention.

“But when it comes to the real barometer of presidential truthfulness — keeping his promises — Trump is a paragon of honesty. For better or worse, since taking office Trump has done exactly what he promised he would.

1. Trump kept his promise to move the U.S. Embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, something his three immediate predecessors also promised yet failed to do.
2. He promised to “crush and destroy ISIS,”and two years later he is on the verge of eliminating the Islamic State’s physical caliphate.
3. He promised to impose a travel ban on countries that he saw as posing a terrorist threat, and after several false starts the final version of his ban was upheld by the Supreme Court.
4. He promised to punish Syria if it used chemical weapons on its people, and, unlike his immediate predecessor, he followed through — not once but twice.
5. Trump pledged to nominate Supreme Court justices “in the mold of Justice [Antonin] Scalia,” and now Neil M. Gorsuch and Brett M. Kavanaugh sit on the high court.
6. Trump also pledged to fill the federal appellate courts with young, conservative judges, and so far the Senate has confirmed 29 — more than any recent president at this point in his administration.
7. Trump vowed to pass historic tax reforms and signed the first major overhaul of the tax code in three decades.
8. He vowed an unprecedented regulatory rollback, with a strict policy to eliminate two existing regulations for every new regulation. In his first year, he achieved $8.1 billion in lifetime regulatory savings and is on track to achieve an additional $9.8 billion this year.
9. During the campaign, he told African American voters, “What do you have to lose? . . . I will straighten it out. I’ll bring jobs back. We’ll bring spirit back.” On his watch, African American unemployment reached the lowest level ever recorded, and
10. his tax reform included a little-noticed provision creating “Opportunity Zones” to try to revitalize struggling towns and inner-city communities.
11. Trump promised to cancel President Barack Obama’s Clean Power Plan,
12. withdraw from the Paris climate accord,
13. approve the Keystone XL and Dakota Access pipelines, and
14. open the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil exploration. He fulfilled all of those pledges.
15. On trade, he kept his promise to withdraw from the Trans-Pacific Partnership and
16. impose tariffs on steel and aluminum.
17. He also committed to renegotiating NAFTA and
18. the U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement — and
19. recently signed new deals with Mexico, Canada and South Korea.
20. He committed to imposing tariffs on China to force it to open its markets and stop its theft of intellectual property — and is following through on that pledge. Whatever one thinks of Trump’s trade policies, he is doing exactly what he said.
21. The president pledged historic increases in defense spending, and delivered.
22. He pledged to bring back manufacturing jobs, and manufacturing jobs are growing at the fastest pace in more than two decades.
23. He pledged to sign “Right to Try” legislation to give dying Americans access to experimental treatments, and did.
24. He pledged to take on the opioid epidemic and will soon sign a sweeping bipartisan opioids package into law.

Where Trump has failed to keep promises, such as building the wall or repealing Obamacare, it has not been for a lack of trying. Only in a few rare instances has he backtracked on a campaign pledge — such as when he admitted that he was wrong to promise a complete withdrawal of U.S. forces from Afghanistan and reversed course. I’m glad he did.

But whether one agrees or disagrees is not the point. When Trump says he will do something, you can take it to the bank. Yes, he takes liberties with the truth. But unlike his predecessor, he did not pass his signature legislative achievement on the basis of a lie (“If you like your health care plan, you can keep it ”) — which is clearly worse than falsely bragging that your tax cut is the biggest ever. The fact is, in his first two years, Trump has compiled a remarkable record of presidential promise – keeping.”

Based on these 24 promises kept in less than 2 years, Donald Trump is currently the most honest president Americans have known in recent years, and may prove to become the most honest president in history.

6 More Reasons Christians Believe Trump is God’s Choice

In addition to the above, President Trump promised to be friendly not only to Israel, but also to Christians, in contrast to his predecessor Barack Obama’s hostility to both.

25. Trump chose a devout, born-again Christian Mike Pence to be his Vice President.

26. Trump chose Christian philanthropist Betsy DeVos to be Secretary of Education.

27. Trump pledged to “get rid of the Johnson Amendment,” which is a kind of gag order on ministers of religion to speak politically. While the President is not in the legislative branch, he does have power to issue executive orders. On May 11, 2017, he over-ruled Lyndon Johnson’s restrictions by ordering:

“The Secretary of the Treasury shall ensure, to the extent permitted by law, that the Department of the Treasury does not take any adverse action against any individual, house of worship, or other religious organization on the basis that such individual or organization speaks or has spoken about moral or political issues from a religious perspective, where speech of similar character has, consistent with law, not ordinarily been treated as participation or intervention in a political campaign on behalf of (or in opposition to) a candidate for public office by the Department of the Treasury.”

This has the effect of ensuring that pastors, churches and ministries can speak about moral and political issues freely without fear of losing their tax-exempt status. The Bible speaks much against corruption and evil in government. Ministers of the Bible should have no fear to practice their faith publicly.

28. Trump secured through diplomatic pressure, without paying any ransom, the release of 19 American prisoners held by the dictatorships such as Egypt, North Korea, and Turkey, many of whom are Christians or pastors. Freed Pastor Andrew Brunson went to the White House on 13 October 2018 and offered to pray for the President. Trump accepted and said he welcomed prayer for himself.

29. Trump commuted the life sentence of a non-violent drug offender Alice Johnson, on the advice of a left-wing entertainer Kim Kardashian. This demonstrates not only Christian compassion, but also non-partisanship. Other left-wingers would do well to follow Kardashian and negotiate with the president, rather than hysterically criticizing him. Trump is promising:

“I’d like to find a lot of people like Alice Johnson. And there are a lot of people that are in a situation like that. And we are actively looking for those situations.”

30. Despite his own divorces, Trump is far more pro-traditional-family than Barack Obama. He ended military funding of transgender operations, reversed Obama’s directive for public schools to provide transgender bathrooms, stopped transgenders (males who choose to be female) from going into female prisons. This protection for biological women was denied to female inmates in the UK prison system, who were raped by transgender sex offender “Karen White”. He also banned anyone with a history of gender dysphoria from serving in the miliary.

Broken Promises?

What about promises unkept? The President has not yet reached the half-way mark of his first term, therefore I am waiting to see whether and when he will keep his promise to defund Planned Parenthood.

He must also hold tech giants accountable for their censorship of conservative journalists and their social media accounts, because the First Amendment is at risk of being trampled upon by information monopolies. How will he respond to his biggest enemies who smear him with fake news every day and ignore his promise-keeping?
